For years, Dr. Hernandez has used the Juvéderm® family of products to smooth out and correct lines and wrinkles in various parts of the face with remarkable results. It is therefore with great pleasure that we announce the newest product in Juvéderm’s line: Juvéderm Vollure XC®.
Before we discuss Allergan’s newest injectable filler, we wanted to take some time to talk about whether dermal fillers are right for you. As well, we’d like to talk about what makes Juvéderm so unique.
If you’re not ready to perform surgery, dermal fillers can be a great substitute. They provide volume, enhancing the subcutaneous fat we lose in our face when we get older.
If a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon determines you shouldn’t pursue facial plastic surgery, dermal fillers could be your best option.
Though there are many advantages to using dermal fillers, they’re not as long-lasting as a surgical solution would be. Good fillers can help improve your appearance for at least a year.
They’re also often a great way to start using the services of a plastic surgeon. You can start out with dermal fillers. Then, if you decide you like having a refreshed look, you can move on to facial plastic surgery performed by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon specializing in Aesthetic Surgery.

Juvéderm is just one of Allergan’s product brands. In fact, they’re the company behind a more well-known brand: Botox®. Simply put, this company has a deep understanding of non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments.
Juvéderm products consist mainly of hyaluronic acid, a substance commonly found in the body. In Voluma, Volbella, and Vollure, this is then combined with Vycross®, a technology that makes the dermal fillers flexible but firm. This means that it has the strength to make your face look fuller, but it’s also flexible enough to move with your facial expression.
Vycross also contributes to the longevity of many Juvéderm products, which is important. Patients prefer not to undergo more than one dermal filler treatment per year for a specific area, so a product that allows them to do just that is meaningful.
Juvéderm has introduced many new dermal fillers over the past few years, so it’s worth taking a moment to talk about their various products.
First you have Juvéderm Ultra XC®. This is their primary, multi-purpose product. It can smooth wrinkles, fill lips, or help with scar correction. It also has a thicker version, Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC®. This thicker gel is injected deeper into the dermis. Therefore, it lasts longer. Some of the more common treatments areas for these products include the correction of frown lines, specifically the “11’s”, and marionette lines.
Beyond Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC, if you’re looking for treatment on a specific area of the face, some of Allergan’s specialized products may prove even more appealing. The consistencies of the products vary to better match the area of the face they’re targeting.
The cheeks, for instance, benefit from a thicker gel consistency. The lips, on the other hand, benefit from a thinner consistency.
As far as specialized products go, you have Juvéderm Voluma XC® for the cheeks, Juvéderm Volbella XC® for the lips, and Juvéderm Vollure XC® for smile lines.
The Juvéderm product targeting the cheeks, Juvéderm Voluma, is particularly interesting. The results have been very promising, as it has been shown to last for up to two years.
If you look closely at all the Juvéderm product names you’ll notice they have XC attached to the end. This indicates the presence of lidocaine, an anesthetic that reduces the pain involved during a treatment.
So what do we know about Juvéderm’s newest product?
First, it’s specifically targeted towards smoothing out the nasolabial folds on people’s face. Less technically, the nasolabial folds are often referred to as smile or laugh lines. These lines appear near the side of the nose and extend to the corner of the mouth. They occur during natural facial expressions like smiling or laughing, thus their names.
In Europe, Juvéderm Vollure XC was released several years ago. It’s named Juvéderm Volift, and patients have reported results that last up to fifteen months.
When Juvéderm Vollure XC was tested by the FDA, 82% of subjects said they were happy with the product after six months.
These results and more get us excited for the future of Juvéderm Vollure XC in the US. It marks yet another step forward for the Juvéderm brand.
