Temporal Hollow Correction
The temple or temporal region is that area between the side of the eye and the hairline behind it. It is primarily made up of muscle fascia and an underlying fat pad. Normally, it is smooth and flat, not pronounced or indented.
As some people age, the temporal area loses that smoothness, appears indented, and begins to look hollow over time. While some people are born with a slightly indented temple, most people don’t develop this feature until later in life.
Signs of Hollow Temples
By their forties, some people might notice sinking in this region. The cause is generally reabsorption of the fat pad. When the fat pad begins to diminish with age, Dr. Hernandez might advise a patient to have a filler or volumizer injection appropriate to the region. Most often, she uses Juvederm XC, Restylane, or Perlane, but other injectables such as Radiesse or Sculptra can be equally effective.
